Theology Lesson FOR KIDS #10:

God the Father

I'm so blessed by the book we are studying, "Big Truths for Young Hearts."  How glorious it is to teach ourselves and children gospel truth!  I hope you have been blessed by this study as well!

Today we will focus on God as Father.  If you missed last week's lesson on the trinity click HERE to catch-up!

"In him (Christ) we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him (the Father) who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his (the Father's) will." Ephesians 1:11

Dr. Ware shares Ephesians 1:11 to point out that God the Father, "stands behind everything as the careful planner, the wise designer, of all that takes place in our world...the Father works to make sure that his purposes and plans happen just as he desires."

"For God (the Father) so loved the world that He (the Father) gave his one and only son..." John 3:16

"(Christ) humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God (the Father) exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2:8-11

Here in John and Philippians we see that it is God the Father who planned for Christ to come and pay the penalty of our sins.   The Father also raised him, exalted him, and the Father will also demand that every knee will bow and acknowledge Christ as Lord.

In Ephesians 1:20 we see the Father is the highest of all, "...he (the Father) raised Christ from the dead and seated him (Christ) at his (the Father's) right hand in the heavenly realms."

In Matthew 6:9 we see Christ commands us to pray to the Father, "Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name."

God the Father is the planner.  He makes sure that his purpose and plan is carried out.  Final praise is given to the Father and He is the highest in charge who has authority over all!

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ." Ephesians 1:3

(Next week's focus will be on God the Son, stay tuned!!)

Specific Ideas for Teaching Lesson Ten to Children:
  • Learn the Doxology together as a way to sing praise to God as Father, Son, and Spirit
  • Find and record verses that show us that we are to pray or give thanks to the Father
  • Pray that God would open the eyes of your child's HEART that they would EMBRACE the gospel not just KNOW the content intellectually (see this related post).
