Theology Lesson FOR KIDS #17:

God Controls All Bad Things in the World
God is good and he is good ALL the time!  He provides ALL good things in the world (as we saw last week) AND He controls ALL bad things in the world.  Dr. Ware shares, "A word used in explaining this idea is sovereignty.  To say that God rules over all things, both the good and bad, is to say that he  is completely sovereign over them."

 “See now that I myself am he!
    There is no god besides me.
I put to death and I bring to life,
    I have wounded and I will heal,
    and no one can deliver out of my hand."
Deuteronomy 32:39

 “The Lord brings death and makes alive;
    he brings down to the grave and raises up.
 The Lord sends poverty and wealth;
    he humbles and he exalts."
1 Samuel 2:6-7

 "I am the Lord, and there is no other;
    apart from me there is no God....
 I form the light and create darkness,
    I bring prosperity and create disaster;
    I, the Lord, do all these things."
Isaiah 45:5,7

Dr. Ware shares, "Some people refuse to accept this teaching from the Bible because they cannot understand how God could control bad things and not be blamed for that bad...We should not turn away from this teaching just because we find it hard to understand.  Since God tells us in his Word that it is true, we must accept it as true."  He also shares that, "we must understand that God is completely good and that he has nothing bad or wrong or evil in him at all."

 "God is light; in him there is no darkness at all."
1 John 1:5

 "For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
    evil may not dwell with you."
Psalm 5:4

Dr. Ware concludes with, "If God is not control of bad things, then we would be led to deep sadness, thinking that a bad thing that is happening will serve no good purpose.  But it is not so!  Rather, God does control the bad as well as the good.  When bad things happen, we can know then, that God is using them for good purposes.  What comfort and peace this should bring to us, since God always does what is best, and God's purposes can never fail."
