Theology Lesson FOR KIDS #15:
God Rules the World He Has Made
“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.” Revelation 4:11
I have been enjoying my weekly study of Dr. Ware's book! The content seems to build to create a complete picture of who God is, what He does, and His Character. I have even jumped ahead to read chapters that pertain to current questions I or my children have. I would definitely recommend this book to parents, new believers, or even those who desire a refresher course in theology 101! Need a last minute Christmas present? This would be a beautiful gift to receive!
This chapter begins by restating that God created the world. It then adds the truth that because God is the one and only Creator of the world then He is the only rightful owner and ruler of it as well!
“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
and have their being.” Revelation 4:11
Furthermore, Dr. Ware draws our attention to two ways God's ruling of this world is spoken of in the bible...
1. God provides for everything He has made. Once God created things He also cared for His creation. Dr. Ware shares, "He is involved in providing for and protecting every part of the creation so that all of God's purposes are fulfilled." Consider this beautiful promise found in Matthew 6:26...
"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"
2. Dr. Ware shares, "The second way God rules the world he has made is by guiding and directing it to accomplish or bring about everything that he has planned for it." He continues to show from scripture that, "God created the world with a very complete plan for how the world would develop and what would be accomplished through it."
Lastly, the story from Daniel 4 is presented to demonstrate God's rulership over the world as King Nebuchadnezzer learned that the true God was in control of making him and his nation great, not himself.
"At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever.
His dominion is an eternal dominion;
his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
All the peoples of the earth
are regarded as nothing.
He does as he pleases
with the powers of heaven
and the peoples of the earth.
No one can hold back his hand
or say to him: “What have you done?”
Daniel 4:34-35 are regarded as nothing.
He does as he pleases
with the powers of heaven
and the peoples of the earth.
No one can hold back his hand
or say to him: “What have you done?”
More thoughts for Teaching Theology to Children...
- Begin an individual journal or family journal about the theological truths learned, review it regularly.
- Pray that God would open the eyes of your child's HEART that they would EMBRACE the gospel not just KNOW the content intellectually (see this related post).
