The activity was decorating a small gingerbread house. Each child had their own house that they could decorate just the way they liked! I assembled the houses the day before our visit so all the children had to do was the fun part, decorate and taste!
Here is how to make a small graham cracker gingerbread house!
You Will Need...
- Box of Graham Crackers
- Recipe for "Royal Icing"
- Ziplock Bag
- Different Shapes, Colors, & Sizes of Candies
- Small Paper Plate
- Aluminum Foil
First, make your frosting and place inside a Ziplock Bag. Cut a small corner off the bag and use that end as the tip where you will have the frosting come out! Set aside.
Next, prepare your graham crackers as the picture indicates below (Tip: when you cut your crackers to make the house peaks use your knife like a saw) Set aside.
Now, construct the base of the house using a small plate covered in aluminum foil (Tip: Use a sturdy/thick paper plate.)
Using your icing as the "glue" glue down your first graham cracker
Add two sides (Tip: do not allow them to dry completely because you want the pieces to give a little so everything can come together, remember it will not be perfect!)
Add the two peaks (see tip above)
Add the roof (again it will not be a perfect match just try your best!)
We added a small door!
The three houses before they were decorated. Allow them to have enough time to dry. I thought they were just as beautiful before they were decorated so you may want to stop here or just add a few details.
BUT, it's more fun to gob on the candy!! PARTY TIME!!
And gingerbread houses plus lots of candy= happy kids!
